A new Queensland Government development process aims to fast-track housing developments in targeted areas.

A State Facilitated Development team will assess Expressions on Interests for initiatives which support building more homes faster in areas which are close to schools, transport, and healthcare.

Queensland Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon said the new team would speed up the planning and development process and solve development and infrastructure issues that delayed new homes.

Minister Scanlon said projects featuring affordable housing, especially for low to moderate income households, would receive top priority.

The State Government website said the State Facilitated Development (SFD) pathway catered to proposals that currently did not qualify for the Ministerial Infrastructure Designation (MID), but offered innovative and affordable housing solutions.

It said the SFD pathway would be guided by principles of good design, sustainability, and alignment with state growth management instruments and policies like ShapingSEQ 2023.
