A donation drive has kicked off to support hundreds of homeless people across Brisbane.
In the lead up to the next Homeless Connect event in November, Brisbane City Council is calling for donations of toiletries, non-perishable food, clothing and other essentials.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the previous event, in June, supported nearly 900 people doing it tough, as they received meals, health checks, haircuts, connections to housing and employment, as well as donated goods.
“Since 2006, we have been hosting these events and helping tens of thousands of people, but now more than ever we need Brisbane’s community spirit to shine,” Lord Mayor Schinner said.
He said the next Homeless Connect event would take place at the Brisbane Showgrounds, Bowen Hills, on November 7, with donations accepted up until October 31 at local Ward Offices or Council libraries.
“Brisbane’s generosity is inspiring because every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a tangible difference to the lives of people doing it tough.
“A warm jumper, a tin of food or a packet of toiletries might seem insignificant, but together they create a huge difference for those who need it most.”
