An oasis in the west is creating space and tranquillity for students to flourish.
St Peter Chanel Primary School The Gap, 10km west of the Brisbane CBD is taking full advantage of it natural surrounds.
Principal Bec O’Connor said the Brisbane Catholic Education school was located in a very natural environment, allowing for a collaborative, inclusive and nurturing learning community.
“We have a massive oval and a creek with lots of birds. It is like an oasis for learning here,” Ms O’Connor said.
She said the large grounds give students space to spread out and “find their passion”.
“There is room to do the simple things. It provides a sense of calm and tranquillity that encourages mindfulness and time to think and reflect.”
Ms O’Connor said the school was proud of its 50 years of history in the community, but was also dedicated to innovation.
She said at St Peter Chanel there was a strong balance between traditional Catholic values and the contemporary world of technological development and constant change.
“We give student many opportunities to lead, build confidence and acquire the tools they need for life.
“We encourage students to learn in ways that suit their individual styles and strengths.”
Ms O’Connor said the area was home to many young families, which would provide an opportunity for the school to grow and build its community.
“The parent community is very strong within the school.
“We have a strong feedback loop between students, parents and teachers, which inspires trust and a sense of security and comfort.”
