Commuters can now use a credit card, debit card, smartphone, smartwatch or Go Card to pay for bus trips on Brisbane City Council (BCC) buses.
This marks the final roll-out of so-called “smart ticketing” for south-east Queensland.
The new payments methods have been activated across Brisbane City Council’s fleet of around 1300 buses, the last of 18 operators across SEQ to offer the new payment method.
The activation means travellers catching a local bus, train, tram or ferry across the south east can use smart ticketing and remain eligible for 50 cent fares.
Commuters can continue to use their Go Cards. A new card will also be developed for the Smart Ticketing system.
More than 25 percent of customers on activated services are now using the Smart Ticketing technology.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads Brent Mickelberg said the Smart Ticketing rollout made public transport more accessible to customers.
