The Port of Brisbane has opened its most sustainable development to date, with a new purpose-built distribution facility and Experience Centre.
The cutting-edge Electrolux Group project is the first to open within Stage 2 of the Port West industrial estate in Lytton.
Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) CEO Neil Stephens said the new 21,255sqm facility sat on a 4.22ha site and included warehouse space, a premium Experience Centre, a two-storey office, two storey dock office, repairs workshop, hardstand/truck apron and car parking.
Mr Stephens said the project was targeting a 6-Star Green Star rating and included rooftop solar, low-carbon concrete, and a timber structure crafted from Glulam and Cross Laminated Timber.
He said through PBPL’s embedded energy network within Port West stage 2, Electrolux Group would also have access to 100 percent renewable power for its operations.
“This positions it as the Port’s most sustainable development to date.”
Mr Stephens said other sustainability measures included water efficiency and recycling initiatives which capture rainwater for use in bathrooms and workshop appliance testing, along with the recycling of water used for fire system testing.
He said additional elements included a Building Management System and an optimised design which reduced embodied carbon wherever possible.
“(This) marks the beginning of a new benchmark in sustainability at the Port of Brisbane. The project pushed the boundaries of what sustainable development looks like in an industrial setting.”
Electrolux Group Managing Director Australia & New Zealand Kurt Hegvold said the site featured an advanced Experience Centre capable of hosting events for up to 150 guests, showcasing appliances in action with live cooking demonstrations by leading chefs.
Mr Hegvold said an emphasis was placed on employee wellbeing for the site which included several outdoor spaces and terraces which take advantage of the unique river-front setting at Port West.
