A passion for the past has not stopped teacher Megan Pidskalny leading the charge to deliver a future-focussed, technology-enhanced education for students.
As Head of Campus, Ms Pidskalny is driving wide-spread adoption of Brisbane Catholic Education’s online learning platform FisherONE and supporting the broader integration of technology in the classroom.
She said FisherONE’s mission to deliver innovative, high-quality education across Queensland deeply resonated with her belief in leveraging technology to enhance learning.
“The chance to be part of a pioneering team, shaping the future of hybrid learning, and supporting both educators and students inspired me to embrace this dynamic role.”
A Modern History teacher, Ms Pidskalny said technology helped bring historical content to life.
“I engage online learners by connecting historical content to contemporary issues, using technology to create interactive and immersive experiences.
“Strategies such as virtual debates, digital archives, and collaborative projects allow students to critically analyse and relate to history in meaningful ways.”
She said her role was also to support educators in leveraging all that technology had to offer, establishing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.
“PLCs have been transformative in fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
“By sharing best practices and providing constructive feedback, teachers feel empowered to innovate and refine their pedagogical approaches.
“This has directly enhanced teaching quality and, subsequently, student outcomes by creating a more cohesive and supportive learning environment.”
Ms Pidskalny said encouraging educators to explore new technologies helped them unlock innovative ways to engage students and enrich their learning experiences.
“At FisherONE, the integration of advanced tools like Microsoft Teams has allowed us to create more interactive, inclusive, and impactful teaching methods.”
