Early works and planning have begun to deliver on the promised $9 billion upgrade of the Bruce Highway.

Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Brent Mickelberg said an initial $300 million was being invested in 16 new projects between Gympie and Innisfail.

This included:

  • Wide centre line treatments between Rungoo and Mourilyan
  • Overtaking lanes between Ayr and Brandon
  • A new heavy vehicle rest area in Gin Gin as well as pavement and culvert strengthening.

A further seven projects will progress preconstruction and design activities for future safety works.

In January the Federal Government committed $7.2 billion to fix the Bruce Highway in Queensland and the State Government agreed to contribute $1.8 billion.

The Federal Government has also announced the following funding this week:

  • $38 million to kick off early works for the critical Beef Roads
  • $188 million to start on the Bruce Highway upgrades between Gladstone and Rockhampton
  • $37 million to begin upgrading sections of the Capricorn Highway.

Projects in the Bruce Highway early works package have been identified by investment priorities from the Bruce Highway 15-year Vision and Action Plans .
