A three-year project to revitalise the main street of an historic Sunshine Coast town is complete, with a community day planned this weekend to mark the occasion.
Landsborough, 80km north of Brisbane, has a new look now that the makeover of its Cribb St heart has been finalised.
Sunshine Coast Council Division 1 Councillor Jenny Broderick said the revitalised streetscape created a stronger, more functional destination and a “beautiful town heart” for locals to gather and for visitors to experience country charm.
Cr Broderick said Council completed the first stage of the Cribb St streetscape project in 2021, with the second, and final stage, of the improvement of now open for the community to enjoy.
She said a free community event to celebrate the transformation would be held on Saturday (November 23) between 4 and 6pm at Railways RSL Park.
The final stage of the streetscape project boasts an improved central gathering space with new shelters and seating, a play space, lawn area for community events, more shade trees and creative lighting elements to build on the signature night-time lighting of the township.
“The consultants worked with an artist to develop the special geometric ‘pods’ suspended within the arbour, providing shade during the day and feature lighting in the evening,” Cr Broderick said.
“The pods reference our region’s Bunya Nut trees, which were once plentiful in the area, providing food sources and a natural resource to support First Nations gatherings, trade and ceremony.”
