Popular Sunshine Coast market destination Eumundi is getting a multi-million dollar facelift.

The hinterland town, 120km north of Brisbane, is a mecca for markets and creative arts, attracting thousands from all over south-east Queensland every week.

Sunshine Coast Council Division 10 Councillor David Law said the $3.8 million revamp would enhance the town’s charm and improve safety.

Cr Law said construction of a new streetscape in Eumundi’s main street, which has been designed based on community input, began this week and would be in keeping with the town’s character.

“We recognise the importance of keeping the main street and markets open for business during construction which is why the works will be staged in zones to minimise disruption to our community,” he said.

“The upgrades along Memorial Drive will help the street operate more safely and efficiently and enhance the look and experience of the bustling town while improving accessibility for everyone.”

Cr Law said construction of the Bank Arcade zone would continue until October and deliver a new raised pedestrian crossing on Memorial Drive, upgraded footpath, lighting, landscaping and seating areas, amongst other improvements.

He said works would then switch to the Etheridge Street zone on Memorial Drive to construct a similar raised pedestrian crossing with outdoor seating, leafy shaded areas, upgraded footpaths, lighting, wayfinding signage, and a ‘Bullock’ circle heritage interpretation.

“There will be a construction break over the peak December to January trading period with these works expected to be completed by February 2025, weather dependent.”

Cr Law said Stage Two works were subject to further technical investigations and were anticipated to start in early 2025.
