The Queensland LNP have committed to establishing a public child sex offender register if elected at the October 26 State election.

LNP leader David Crisafulli said an elected LNP Government would pass Daniel’s Law to create the register, which would be a three-tiered system aimed at protecting children.

Mr Crisafulli said the first tier included a public website with photographs and personal details of reportable offenders, who had failed to comply with their reporting obligations or provided false or misleading information to police.

He said the second tier included an application-based system to identify high-risk offenders living in a local area.

“Queenslanders will be able to apply for a photograph of an offender, so they know what they look like and can be more vigilant of risks.”

Mr Crisafulli said the third tier included a Community Protection Disclosure Scheme where parents or guardians would be able inquire about a specific person who has regular unsupervised contact with their child.

“Importantly, new offences will be created to prevent the misuse of any information from the register to ensure any actions are handled by police, for the safety of everyone,” he said.
