The Australian Antarctic Program (AAP) has released a series of photos which captures the essence of Australia’s most southern outpost.

AAP, a collaborative partnership across government and more than 150 national and international research institutions, is also searching for more than 200 tradespeople to join its ranks in 2025 and 2026.

In a statement it said it was looking for tradies, including plumbers, plant operators, communications tech officers and carpenters, to live and work in Antarctica or the sub-Antarctic.

“Successful expeditioners will live in tight knit communities, helping run Australia’s three scientific research stations in Antarctica – Davis, Mawson and Casey – and one on sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island,” it stated.

To set the scene for applicants, AAP published a series of photos taken by scientists, expeditioners and support staff this year.
