Australia Post will re-introduce weekend delivery from Saturday to cope with increased holiday season demand.

Executive General Manager Parcel, Post and eCommerce Services Gary Starr said the increased service would ensure customers received their parcels before Christmas Day.

Mr Starr said the service would be available in all metro capitals and select regional cities and towns.

“With the holiday season just around the corner, we know how important it is for our customers to receive their parcels on time,” he said.

Mr Starr said last year Australia Post delivered nearly 100 million parcels.

“With the cost-of-living crunch, customers are expected to make the most of major shopping events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, so we anticipate early Christmas shopping will drive another record-breaking year,” he said.

Mr Starr said weekend deliveries would remain in place up until Christmas, depending on volumes.

He said to ensure items arrived on time, parcels should be sent by Friday, December 20 for most destinations within Australia, or if sending via Express Post by Monday, December 23.

“People sending to or from Western Australia and the Northern Territory should allow a few extra days.”
