A new Queensland-made documentary series is shining a light on the state’s women working in the male-dominated manufacturing industry.
She Made It, which premiered at a red-carpet event in Brisbane in March, showcases the personal stories of Queensland women working across 10 manufacturing businesses, who are breaking down barriers and changing perceptions about manufacturing to improve gender equality and attract more women to the industry.
The production is also aimed at providing women with more information about opportunities in manufacturing and highlighting the diverse types of work available in the manufacturing industry.
With a significant pipeline of manufacturing work in Queensland it is crucial more women join the industry to fill skills shortages.
Brisbane-based production house Pixelframe has delivered the production on behalf of the Queensland Government over six months and now hopes to enter the series into international film festival competitions.
Pixelframe producer Caitlin Johnston said the project showed that manufacturing was such a diverse industry and had a wide variety of opportunities.
“This project is testament to Queensland’s inclusive manufacturing industry and to the resilience and strength of Queensland’s women in the industry.”
She Made It star and manufacturer Lauren Collocott urged other women to consider a career in manufacturing.
“I’m a role model, you can do this. A female in a shed full of males is not a barrier. I would encourage young women to jump in and give manufacturing a go!”
