An unnamed Brisbane company has been tasked with fast-tracking Australia’s ability to overcome foreign air defences.

Federal Defence Industry and Capability Delivery Minister Pat Conroy said two companies, one in Adelaide and one in Brisbane, would be supported to rapidly develop technology to degrade the integrated air and missile defence systems (IAMD) of potential adversaries.

Minister Conroy said awarding of the $61.5m contracts would move the Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator’s (ASCA) Mission 1 into the delivery phase of giving the Australian Defence Force (ADF) a capability edge.

“The ability to degrade IAMD systems of potential adversaries at long ranges is a capability priority for the ADF in line with the National Defence Strategy,” he said.

Minister Conroy said due to security sensitivities, the identity of the companies and details about the technologies would not be publicly disclosed, at this stage.

He said ASCA was established to accelerate delivery of capabilities to the ADF, including by supporting and investing in emerging and disruptive technologies and nurturing innovations that addressed priority capability needs.
