Brisbane residents are some of the most positive in the country about their quality of life.
The latest Better Brisbane Index, released by the Brisbane City Council this week, showed 92 percent were positive about their life in the Queensland capital.
The rating was higher than that for residents of Perth (91 percent), Melbourne (84 percent) and Sydney (78 percent).
Council said the annual online survey was conducted with Brisbane residents aged 18 years and over, as well a representative sample of residents from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, outer South East Queensland (SEQ) and neighbouring SEQ, for comparisons.
“The Better Brisbane Index measures residents’ perceptions of the quality of life in Brisbane, both now and in the future,” Council said on its website.
It said the objectives of the study were to understand how Brisbane residents felt about the quality of life in the River City and how it may change in the future, as well as benchmark results against other Australian capital cities.
The study found civic pride among Brisbane residents was very strong and was higher than in Sydney and neighbouring SEQ.
It found three quarters of Brisbane residents would rather live in Brisbane than in any other place in Australia and 90 percent of residents would also recommend Brisbane as a great place to live, which was higher than all tracked locations other than Perth.
64 percent of residents were concerned about how Brisbane would change in the future, a figure which has been growing since 2021-22, when the result was 56 percent.
Population growth and planning (40 percent), housing (36 percent) and getting around Brisbane (28 percent) where deemed to be the most important issues facing Brisbane over the next 10 to 20 years, according to those surveyed.
