Six focus areas will help shape Queensland’s tourism industry over the next two decades.

The State Government has released details of its 20-year master plan to drive the state’s visitor economy, with consultation now open.

Environment and Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said regional roadshows, industry consultation and an online survey would allow all Queenslander to have a say.

Minister Powell said the release of the Destination 2045: Queensland’s Tourism Future discussion paper was the first step in the stakeholder engagement process, which would also include dedicated forums the key focus areas of ecotourism, Brisbane 2032 legacy, investment attraction, tourism experience development, access and connectivity, and events delivery.

He said Destination 2045 was a 20-year tourism plan to enhance Queensland’s global appeal, unlock untapped lifestyle and culture opportunities, and maximise the legacy of hosting the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“By listening to Queenslanders, the 20-year tourism plan will deliver growth in Queensland tourism, attracting investment, supporting jobs, and accelerating infrastructure and experiences.”

Minister Powell said consultation on the plan was open to the end of February, 2025.

He said the newly-formed Tourism Cabinet Committee would be instrumental in driving the 20-year tourism plan, with members representing portfolios that were critically important to the growth of tourism in Queensland, from infrastructure to transport.
