A Gold-Coast based specialist school will the first funded under a crime-prevention program to be implemented by an elected Queensland LNP Government.
State LNP Leader David Crisafulli said if an LNP Government was elected following the October 26 election, $40 million would be invested in new or expanded crime early intervention schools.
Mr Crisafulli said the program would re-engage youth who have fallen-out of mainstream schooling and were assessed as at-risk of falling into crime, with capacity for up to 900 students.
He said Gold Coast-based Men of Business would be the first of four schools funded in the policy under a Special Assistance School model, with the program to allow the existing academy to expand to grades 7-12.
“Restoring safety where you live started with prevention, by re-engaging youth at risk of falling into crime.
“Education, mentoring, life skills and community connection will put these kids back on the right track,” he said.
Mr Crisafulli said the crime-prevention focused special assistance schools would work directly with youth who had fallen out of mainstream schooling and plug them back into the community.
“Often young people turn to crime because they don’t see a better choice.”
