Hilda Sirec has been appointed to the role of Deputy Commissioner National Security with the Australian Federal Police.

Deputy Commissioner Hilda Sirec’s new role is part of the AFP’s efforts to defend and protect Australia from domestic and global security threats.

AFP Commissioner Krissy Barrett said Deputy Commissioner Sirec came into this role with almost 25 years’ experience within the AFP across a multitude of disciplines.

She has expertise as an investigator in terrorism, organised crime, global operations, child protection, human trafficking and people smuggling.

She most recently held the role of Assistant Commissioner Southern Command, leading AFP operations across Victoria and Tasmania, and has previously led Joint Counter Terrorism Teams in New South Wales, Queensland, and Northern Territory and led the Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation.

Deputy Commissioner Sirec was deployed to Ukraine after the downing of MH17, deployed to Afghanistan to help train and build capacity within the Afghan National Police, and posted to Islamabad, Pakistan.

She was awarded the Australian Police Medal in the 2019 Queen’s Birthday Honours List in recognition of meritorious service and commitment to the Australian community.
