Renowned Australian music historian and travel writer Glenn A Baker has died at age 74.
His family has urged people to remember him by having a passionate conversation about their favourite band or muso.
Baker’s work was widely published across books, newspapers and magazines and he was a regular on radio and television, talking music and travel.
He reportedly owned over 80,000 records and 30,000 CDs, many of which he sold at auction in 2024.
Baker also managed bands such as Ol’ 55 and promoted tours of international stars.
In the mid-1980s, he took the BBC’s “Rock Brain of the Universe” crown three times and was Australian editor of Billboard for over 20 years.
He won the Australian Travel Writer of the Year award in 1995 and 2000.
Baker’s official Facebook site announced his death this morning.
It said:
“Glenn’s contribution to the Australian rock ’n’ roll music landscape was immense, but his family remembers him as a loving father of six and grandfather of thirteen.
“Glenn’s passion for music, travel, food and his family (still not entirely sure of the order) was, like his personality, larger than life.
“While the family wishes for privacy, if you do wish to honour Glenn or continue his legacy in some way, have a passionate conversation today with somebody about your favourite Australian muso or band.”
