McCullough Robertson Lawyers (McR) has further strengthened its resources and renewables firepower with the appointment of Madeline Simpson as a partner in the Project Approvals team based in Brisbane.

Ms Simpson joins the firm from Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) where she spent the last 23 years and was Head of HSF’s Queensland environmental team from 2016 to 2022.

Madeline’s practice covers environmental approvals pathways, impact assessment, biodiversity and carbon offsets, environmental compliance, enforcement and incident response, approval of carbon projects, climate change risk, and advising on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) matters.

McR Joint Managing Partner Damien Clarke said Madeline’s appointment was “extremely exciting” for the firm’s resources and renewables clients, especially those navigating complex approval processes and environmental obligations.

“Since 1926 we have prided ourselves on being approachable experts who relate to and support our clients and our people – always,” he said.

“I know Madeline is a great fit for McR’s culture and our clients with her pragmatic approach, energy and proven dedication to exceptional client service.”

McR Chair of Partners Kristan Conlon said she was delighted to welcome Madeline to the partnership.

“Not only does this appointment advance our commitment to women in leadership, but I know our people will benefit from Madeline’s focus on mentorship and empowerment,” she said.
