A reduced Jobs Queensland Board has been announced with Michael Drew the new chair.

A continuing Board member, Dr Drew replaces Springfield City Group Director Jim Varghese in leading the now seven-strong group.

Deirdre von Guilleaume, a retired school principal, will join the Board, with workforce expert Danielle Carey, Business Chamber of Queensland CEO Heidi Cooper, Queensland Hotels Association Chief Executive Bernie Hogan, TAFE Queensland regional manager Kate Venables, and Trent Young, from the Young Guns Container Crew, continuing their respective four-year terms.

Alongside Mr Varghese, Queensland Indigenous Business Network CEO Donisha Duff, Jennifer Thomas, from The Services Union, Energy Queensland’s Michael Dart and Walter Kuhn, of Kuhn Corp Print and Packaging, were announced as Board members early last year for four-year terms, but were not part of the new-look group.

State Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment, and Training Ros Bates thanked outgoing Board members for their contributions to Jobs Queensland’s extensive program of work.

“A Board that embraces change and adapts to the evolving jobs landscape will ensure Jobs Queensland remains well-positioned to provide industry-led, future-focused advice for the benefit of workforces across the State,” Minister Bates said.

She said Dr Drew, a financial economist, was the co-founder of Drew, Walk and Co, an Adjunct Professor at Griffith University, and Chair of Volunteering Australia, adding Ms Guilleaume, had extensive experience in leadership, mentoring, coordination, and government.

“With renewed purpose and fresh perspectives, we’re excited to welcome Dr Drew’s leadership and Ms Guilleaume’s real-world experience to the Jobs Queensland Board,” Minister Bates said.

“Together with our continuing Board members, they will play a crucial role in shaping the future of Queensland’s skilled workforce.”
