Brisbane executive Stephen Beckett is the next head of this region’s airlines industry group.
Currently the General Manager of Government and Industry Affairs at Virgin Australia, Mr Beckett will become the Chief Executive of Airlines for Australia and New Zealand (A4ANZ) from October 20.
A4ANZ chair Professor Graeme Samuel said he would replace Emma Wilson, who less than a year ago took over from Alison Roberts, who served as the group’s inaugural chief executive for seven years.
Professor Samuel told Travel Weekly he welcomed a leader of Mr Beckett’s calibre to the organisation, which was the peak representative body for airlines operating out of the two countries, representing Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Qantas, REX and Virgin Australia.
“Stephen brings exceptional experience across aviation, tourism and transport policy, with intimate knowledge of the strategic and operational challenges facing our industry.”
Professor Samuel said the immediate focus would be ensuring the Australian and New Zealand aviation sector remained efficient, competitive and sustainable.
“Aviation is an essential service that connects our communities, drives economic growth and creates jobs across the region.”
