Australian rock singer, songwriter, actor and television personality Angry Anderson has died several weeks after experiencing a heart attack while touring overseas.
Anderson was born in Melbourne, as Gary Stephen Anderson, growing up in the suburb of Coburg.
He was hospitalised last month after a show in Cologne, Germany.
The singer’s band, Rose Tattoo, and the Anderson family made the announcement of his death via a statement on social media.
They said Anderson was a devoted father, and a much-loved member of his friends group, band and the wider music and entertainment community.
“His loss will be deeply felt by all those who knew and loved him both here in Australia and overseas,” the statement said.
“We thank everyone for their prayers and messages of love and continued support. Stay young, grow strong.”
Anderson joined Rose Tattoo in 1976 after earlier playing with bands including Buster Brown, and later The Party Boys.
Anderson also enjoyed solo success, most notably with the 1987 single Suddenly, which became a major hit in Australia and overseas.
Beyond music, he became a prominent media personality and was known for his work as a youth advocate.
He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1993 for his advocacy work. Rose Tattoo were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006.
