A driving force behind the strategic direction of Bond University is the new Chair of the Screen Queensland Board.

Patricia Alner, the current Director of Strategy and Planning for the Gold Coast university, replaces the retiring Chair Roslyn Atkinson.

Queensland Arts Minister John-Paul Langbroek said Ms Alner, who was also a Screen Queensland Director, would be joined by three new Board members John Kotzas, Venesa Gleeson and John Morris.

Minister Langbroek said the new-look Board would bring expertise and fresh perspectives to the Queensland Government-owned screen agency.

“Incoming Chair, Ms Alner will bring her strength in governance, financial management, compliance, and information technology to the role,” he said.

“She has previously served as Chair of Screen Queensland’s Audit and Risk Committee.”

Minister Langbroek said Mr Kotzas served as Chief Executive of the Queensland Performing Arts Centre for 16 years before retiring from the role in 2024.

“He was the Brisbane Festival’s first Managing Director and has been acknowledged for his 40-year contribution to Australia’s arts and cultural sector with numerous honours and awards, including an Order of Australia.”

He said Ms Gleeson was Special Counsel at legal firm Suthers Taylor.

“She has a strong background in corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and risk management (and) previously served as Senior Legal Counsel for Walker Corporation for more than 20 years.”

Minister Langbroek said Mr Morris had extensive leadership experience in the tourism and hospitality industries, fulfilling senior management roles, including as General Manager of RACV Resorts Queensland properties.

“John has also held Board Director positions with Destination Queensland and Airports Vanuatu.”

He said Ms Alner, Ms Gleeson, Mr Kotzas and Mr Morris joined continuing Screen Queensland Board members Lynne Benzie, Professor Scott Harrison, Cathy Hunt, and Carla McGrath.

“Queensland’s reputation as a screen hub continues to grow and I have full confidence our new Board has the vision and expertise to put us on the map as a global production powerhouse,” Minister Langbroek said.
