The Queensland Government will invest $330.5 million in the Great Barrier Reef’s water quality and sediment reduction program.
The Reef 2050 Catchment Water Quality Strategy builds on 20 years of work and sets targets to reduce sediment, nutrients and pesticide run-offs by 2032.
The funding will also go towards innovation and research as part of next week’s 2026-27 State Budget announcement.
The Great Barrier Reef supports 77,000 jobs and contributes about $9 billion annually to Australia’s economy.
Treasurer David Janetzki said it was a practical program that would help preserve the Reef and the tourism jobs that rely on it.
