Work has begun on the new Suttons Beach Pavilion at Redcliffe, north of Brisbane.
The project includes a new pavilion structure, extensive landscaping and public amenities.
The building will include a rooftop space and a public viewing deck with views to the ocean.
City of Moreton Bay Mayor Peter Flannery said in statement that the work would “return the site to an iconic destination the community can enjoy for generations to come”.
“We’re looking forward to this seaside precinct opening in mid-2027, weather permitting, and the flow-on benefits it will deliver for employment, economic development and tourism in City of Moreton Bay,” he said.
A separate tender process will also deliver new indoor and outdoor food and beverage options at the site.
The project will utilise elements of the old pavilion, with the 1998 rotunda being relocated to a new spot to provide an additional shaded seating option.
Bricks from the old structure will also be repurposed for landscaping at the site.
The $19.5 million Suttons Beach Pavilion Redevelopment Project is being delivered as part of the South East Queensland (SEQ) Liveability Fund, a commitment under the SEQ City Deal.
The Deal is a partnership between the Australian Government, Queensland Government and Council of Mayors (SEQ) that aims to deliver projects of long-lasting benefits to SEQ, including City of Moreton Bay.
