Work began on a new Toowoomba Hospital as a new day surgery in the Darling Downs city was officially opened this week.

The newly-opened $42 million Bunya Day Surgery includes two new theatres that will provide capacity for an additional 4000 surgeries each year.

The new $1.3 billion Toowoomba Hospital will deliver 118 additional beds as well extra emergency treatment spaces, including medical imaging, pharmacy and pathology services, as well as administration, education and training facilities for hospital staff.

Construction of the hospital is estimated to support more than 3000 jobs and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2027.
