Police have located a vehicle connected to two missing international tourists in the Kilkivan area, near Gympie in Queensland.

The discovery came as floods continued in areas across the state, and the flood peak passed in the regional city of Bundaberg which has experienced major inundation over the past few days.

Early this week, a 26-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were travelling in a Silver Subaru Forrester from Brisbane to North Burnett when they failed to make their destination.

Police announced last night that a silver vehicle had been located at Kilkivan Tansey Road, near McArthur Road. They appealed for help from anyone who might have information about the missing tourists.

The Bureau of Meteorology still has strong wind warnings current for the Sunshine and Gold Coasts.

The Bureau has also published the following updates.

Chinchilla and Condamine

Major flooding is occurring along Charleys Creek at Chinchilla, and at Condamine Township on the Condamine River it is estimated that the river is peaking around the major flood level. Moderate flooding is occurring along the Lower Condamine River at Chinchilla Weir.

Flood peak passes at Bundaberg

Following heavy rainfall since Friday morning over the Burnett catchment, minor to major flooding is occurring, however river levels in most locations are beginning to fall. Along the lower Burnett River, the main flood peak has passed Bundaberg, where the river level has fallen below the major flood level late Wednesday afternoon.

A second flood peak is moving along the upper Burnett River downstream of Eidsvold, which may cause small renewed rises at Mundubbera and Gayndah. However, this peak is unlikely to result in significant renewed rises downstream of Paradise Dam.

Bundaberg Regional Council (https://disaster.bundaberg.qld.gov.au/) issued the following advice on social media this morning.

  • Both the Burnett Traffic and Tallon Bridges are now open and communities can return to Bundaberg North with care.
  • There are 40km/h speed limits in place for Queens Street and Hinkler Avenue.
  • Motorists are asked to drive carefully and take care around people undertaking restoration and cleaning works.
  • There will be heavy machinery and workers in the Bundaberg North area performing essential recovery and cleaning activities. Motorists need to be mindful of their presence.

Yesterday the council said the Bureau of Meteorology had advised the Burnett River at Bundaberg was at 7.40m and steady, with major flooding.

It predicted the river was likely to peak near 7.60m, with major flooding. The river was expected to fall below the major flood level (7.00 m) from Wednesday afternoon.
