A new bayside masterplan proposes an upgraded Wynnum Wading Pool, new waterside walks and a new water play park in Manly.

The draft 20-year Wynnum, Manly and Lota Foreshores Master Plan, which covers eight kilometres of waterfront and 15 parks from Wynnum Creek to Lota, is now open for public consultation.

The plan, released by the Brisbane City Council on the weekend, includes the following upgrade concepts:

  • Upgrading the Wynnum Wading Pool into a new sand beach pool with deck areas
  • Delivering a new jetty, mangrove boardwalk and kayak launch facilities in Manly
  • Creating a new waterplay and parkour park in Manly
  • Expanding and replenishing Pandanus Beach
  • Adding new picnic shelters, seating and barbecues along the foreshore.

The draft plan has been developed based on around 1460 inputs from residents.

The submissions asked for better water access, more swimming opportunities, easier walking and cycling, more shade and more places to play and exercise.

Residents also wanted to protect the natural beauty and laid-back bayside lifestyle.

The Council said design works for priority projects could be started during the current financial year.

“The new vision comes 40 years after Pandanus Beach was created under former Lord Mayor Sallyanne Atkinson and became a much-loved part of the Wynnum waterfront,” the Council said in a statement.

“Together with the Wynnum Wading Pool, it has helped generations of Brisbane families enjoy a free day out by the bay.”

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the Council had listened to the comments of local residents and now wanted further input on how those views had been interpreted for the plan.

“The community has already identified the Wynnum Wading Pool as an area that they would want to see upgraded, so we’re hoping to kick start selected projects as soon as we can,” he said.
