A smart phone and pair of walking shoes will help visitors to the Sunshine Coast unlock a slice of Queensland history.
Sunshine Coast Division 1 Councillor Jenny Broderick said a new chapter in story of the historic town of Landsborough had been started with the launch of a Heritage Walk.
Cr Broderick said the self-guided trail brought local history to life through storytelling, public art and digital experiences.
She said the Landsborough Heritage Walk was at the heart of the revitalised Cribb Street streetscape and honoured Landsborough’s layered history, from its significance as a First Nations meeting place to its role in the birth of local government on the Sunshine Coast and its legacy as a thriving timber town.
“It’s more than just a walk – it’s a way to hear the stories that shaped this town.
“Scan QR codes along the trail to unlock audio stories and reflections, from traditional cultural practices to tales of the Landsborough Pub being rolled into place by bullock wagon.
“It’s a tribute to the people who shaped this town and a gift to future generations.”
Cr Broderick said the walk featured interpretive signage, custom-designed street furniture and art elements that reflected the area’s heritage.
“As the Sunshine Coast continues to grow, projects like the Cribb Street streetscape and Landsborough Heritage Walk ensure that the stories of our smaller towns are preserved and celebrated,” she said.
