SEQ attracts biotechnology spotlight

Queensland has secured the rights to host Australia’s largest and most influential biotechnology conference for the next two years.

Deputy Premier and State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Minister Jarrod Bleijie said hosting the AusBioInvest and AusBiotech International Conference for 2026 and 2027 was a strategic win for the state.

Deputy Premier Bleijie said the events would be held on the Gold Coast (2026) and in Brisbane (2027), attracting over 1600 global delegates each year.

“The AusBioInvest conference, AusBiotech’s premier investment platform, will be staged for the first time in Queensland as part of the program, connecting Australian biotech companies with global investors,” he said.

Deputy Premier Bleijie said the Government’s newly-established $180.6 million Sovereign Industry Development Fund (SIDF) had re-focused State Development priorities of Defence, Biomedical and Biofuels, with the goal of build sovereign industry capability.

“Biomedical is a priority industry for the Government – and hosting the AusBiotech International Conference and AusBioInvest will help us showcase our strengths, attract global investment, strengthen our international partnerships, and grow our sovereign capability.

“These events will be hosted in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, showcasing not only our cutting-edge biomedical capabilities but our enviable lifestyle as well.”
