The Brisbane City Council has released the preliminary design for a 1.2km Shafston Ave bikeway extension at East Brisbane.
The dedicated two-way bikeway and separate footpath along Shafston Ave from Deakin St, Kangaroo Point to Mowbray Park, East Brisbane, is part of the council’s third stage of the CityLink Cycleway.
Eventually the Cycleway will span more than 4.5km connecting five suburbs and crossing the Brisbane River twice.
The Shaftston Ave Bikeway will connect to the CityLink Cycleway on Alice St via the Kangaroo Point Bridge, and the Main St and Deakin St Story Bridge underpass.
The final design will be released later in 2026, with construction due to start in 2027.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the bikeway would build on the new walk or cycle Kangaroo Point Bridge which has recorded five million trips since it opened in December 2024.
