The Queensland Government has released an 8.8 hectare area of the Hervey Bay TAFE campus in Urraween for 175 home sites.
The development will include a new access road and flood mitigation measures.
Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie said in a statement that the TAFE site was close to key facilities including hospitals, shopping centres and the Great Sandy Straits Marina.
He said the land was surplus and not required for TAFE purposes.
The block has been released under the government’s Land Activation Program, which identifies and releases underutilised State Government land for new housing.
Since the program launched in February 2026, it has released more than 21 hectares of land across Queensland.
The releases include:
- A large block in the Brisbane suburb of Banyo
- A site in Montague Road in South Brisbane that will become a mixed-use precinct
- A site in Mango Hill north of Brisbane,
- The ex-TAFE site at Pimlico in Townsville.
- A Varsity Lakes site on the Gold Coast.
- A site in Turbot Street in Brisbane City.
- A site in Highgate Hill in South Brisbane
“The Land Activation Program is unlocking under-utilised land in support of the Crisafulli Government’s target of delivering one million homes by 2044 and the under-utilised land at Urraween is a prime candidate for the program,” Mr Bleijie said.
Member for Hervey Bay David Lee said Hervey Bay was one of Queensland’s fastest growing communities and it was critical to provide a range of housing opportunities to meet the needs of young families, first home buyers, seniors and key workers.
