The Queensland Government has announced $1 million in grants to help preserve the state’s koala habitat.
Grants of up to $75,000 are available for on-ground community-led projects
Environment Minister Andrew Powell said these projects would draw on the expertise of local koala advocates and scientists and fill gaps in existing large‑scale restoration work.
The scheme would build on the work currently underway through the new SEQ Koala Strategy, which is open for public consultation until March 15, 2026.
“These grants are designed to support small-scale projects, from planting more trees in existing koala habitats, to creating new wildlife corridors in key priority areas,” Mr Powell said.
“Eligible projects will seek to revegetate koala habitat and increase landscape connectivity at locations within a priority spatial area.”
Applications close 4pm on Tuesday March 31, 2026
