Australia’s first train welding robot is being installed at a Queensland manufacturing hub on the Fraser Coast.
State Manufacturing Minister Dale Last the cutting-edge Resistance Welding Robot would be integrated into the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP)’s Torbanlea site, which is on track to be operational in 2026.
Minister Last said the QTMP facility, which is twice the size of Suncorp Stadium’s playing field, was now structurally complete, with the internal fit-out underway.
He said the robot would streamline train car assembly by precisely welding components and allowing simultaneous operations for efficient, high-quality production.
“The installation of this advanced robotic welder and other specialist equipment is a significant milestone that will deliver high-skilled careers into regional Queensland.”
Minister Last said once installed, local teams would undertake training on the equipment, with a recruitment drive currently underway to mobilise the 300 staff needed to operate the facility.
