Four energy companies have been shortlisted to deliver new gas-fired power generation in Central Queensland.
This is part of a State Government tender targeting an additional 400 megawatts (MW) of capacity by 2032.
AGL, ANZA Power, APA Group and Quinbrook will progress to the next stage of the competitive tender process, managed by Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC).
The State Government said in a statement that all 10 qualified proponents submitted indicative proposals, identifying more than 4 gigawatts (GW) of potential gas-fired generation capacity in Central Queensland.
This represented more than 10 times the capacity sought through the tender, although the proposals remain subject to further assessment.
The tender follows an earlier market sounding process involving more than 50 organisations, which identified more than 10GW of potential gas-fired generation capacity across Queensland.
The new generation capacity forms part of the State Government’s Energy Roadmap, which includes attracting private investment in energy infrastructure.
Treasurer and Energy Minister David Janetzki said competition between prospective projects would be important in determining the final outcome.
“Competition between multiple credible projects will help ensure Queenslanders receive the best value outcome while strengthening energy security and supporting industrial growth.” he said.
The next stage of the tender will involve further evaluation, due diligence and engagement with the four shortlisted proponents.
