Victims of crime in Queensland will have the cost of replacing key identification documents waived.

State Transport and Main Roads Minister Brent Mickelberg said Queenslanders impacted by crime could now replace driver licences and number plates and other documents, such as photo identification cards and industry authority cards free of charge.

Minister Mickelberg said free replacements would also be available for driver licences compromised due to cyber-crime.

He said the changes, which came into effect last week, applied where these items had been stolen, maliciously damaged, destroyed or lost because of a crime.

“This initiative is expected to assist thousands of Queenslanders each year who are victims of crime, providing meaningful financial relief and reducing the burden on those impacted.

“The free replacement of stolen driver licences and number plates is a small way that we are helping to alleviate financial stress on crime victims, allowing them to focus on recovery.”
