The Bruce Highway expansion between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast is officially completed.

The $662.5 million project, which began in late 2020, widened 11km of highway from four lanes to six and upgraded interchanges and exit ramps, as well as providing 10 new higher, wider and safer bridges, built to withstand a 1-in-100-year flood.

The Queensland Government said this was put to the test during heavy rainfall in February this year, which could have closed the highway at King Johns Creek if the new structure had not been built.

Sections of the upgraded roadway, between Caboolture-Bribie Island Road and Steve Irwin Way at Elimbah, have opened progressively to motorists since 2022.

An average of more than 65,000 vehicles travel this section of the Bruce Highway each day.
