Community consultation has opened on a $85 million plan to revitalise a 29km creek corridor in Brisbane’s northern suburbs.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the 20-year Kedron Brook Revitalisation Vision and Master Plan would enhance the popular corridor, which runs across 14 suburbs from Ferny Grove to Nudgee.

“This will transform Kedron Brook into a network of new and improved natural spaces, active transport pathways, and flood resilient landscapes,” Lord Mayor Schrinner said.

He said four key precincts across the entire length of the catchment would be identified for revitalisation works.

“There will be a focus on planting new habitat along creek banks and improving functionality and water flow throughout the catchment.”

Lord Mayor Schrinner said Kedron Brook was one of three lifestyle destinations being transformed, with revitalisation projects also underway at the Oxley Creek catchment and the Wynnum, Manly and Lota foreshores.

He said the first round of community consultation would close on June 29 and would shape the draft for the 20-year revitalisation plan, with a second round of consultation to be held once the draft vision and draft master plan were finalised.

The call for submissions comes as Brisbane City Council begins the first upgrade under its Better Suburbs Places and Spaces program.

Lord Mayor Schrinner said new street trees, upgraded footpaths and better lighting would be delivered in Nundah, with work to begin on April 28.

“The revamped program aims to refresh neighbourhood spaces across the suburbs, adding to Brisbane’s reputation as Australia’s lifestyle capital,” he said.

Lord Mayor Schrinner said based on community feedback, the Nundah precinct on the corner of Ryans Road and Robinson Road would receive:

  • New public open spaces with grass, garden beds and street trees.
  • Improved accessibility measures including kerb ramps, accessible parking and footpaths.
  • New seating, a drinking fountain, bike racks and bins.
  • Improved pedestrian access with a new crossing, improved street lighting and ‘no stopping’ line markings.

He said the new program followed the success of the Village Precinct Projects, which delivered upgrades to 23 suburban hubs between 2018 to 2024 including:

  • Sue’s Corner precinct on Sandgate Road.
  • Martha Street in Camp Hill.
  • Railway Parade, Darra.
  • Aminya St, Mansfield.
  • Ashgrove West Village.
  • Manly Harbour Village.

“Future locations to be explored by the Better Suburbs Places and Spaces program include Lambert Road, Indooroopilly and Ainsworth Street, Salisbury.”
