A wheelchair-accessible zipline over the Brisbane River is the latest eco-tourism project to be funded by the Queensland Government.
The Brisbane River Icons project proposed by tourism operator John Sharpe includes a zipline to run between Kangaroo Point and the City Botanic Gardens, and an accessible high-line picnic experience at Kangaroo Point.
Two custom wheelchair-accessible boats, and upgraded river access infrastructure will support the eco-adventure experiences.
The government has committed $2.1 million to the project as part of a $80 million Tourism Icons Investment Fund that forms Destination 2045.
Environment and Tourism Minister Andrew Powell said in a statement that activating the Brisbane River was key to encouraging tourists to visit and stay longer.
Mr Sharpe said the project would create a world-class adventure and eco-tourism network.
“It will enable us to deliver landmark experiences that connect people with the beauty of the Brisbane River while promoting inclusivity and accessibility, attracting visitors from across Queensland and beyond, boosting the local economy and supporting jobs,” Mr Sharpe said.
Applications for the next round of the Tourism Icons Investment Fund will open later in 2026.
