Construction has started on a new $98 million primary school in one of Australia’s fastest growing areas.

The Caloundra South primary school on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast will have capacity for 1140 students and is scheduled to open in 2028.

It includes a “modern campus”, kindergarten, science and technology centre, a multi-purpose hall, a resource centre and 48 learning spaces.

The school’s onsite Early Years Place will also provide health, wellbeing and family support services for young children and their families.

Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said Stages 1 and 2 of construction would be delivered concurrently to improve construction efficiency and have the new school ready for students in 2028.

“This new school will address enrolment pressures and give local families the education facilities they need for their children to have the best start in life,” he said.

“This is part of our plan to deliver 15 new schools in our record $21.9 billion Education Budget and six special schools to provide choice to parents and help all students reach their potential.”

Caloundra South is one of the fastest growing areas of the Sunshine Coast.

The Sunshine Coast currently has a population of around 350,000 and this is expected to growth to over 500,000 people by 2041.
