The Pryer name continues to shape the minds of young children in Brisbane’s southern suburbs.

Felicity Pryer is the new principal of St Pius X School Salisbury, 60 years after her grandfather led staff and students at Salisbury State School.

Ms Pryer’s grandfather was principal from 1964-1971, with the school swimming pool named in his honour.

Her new position at St Pius X School represents a full-circle moment for her and her family.

“I feel a genuine sense of connectedness and home at my new school – like we’ve been here before,” she said.

“Becoming a principal like my grandfather has always been an interest of mine.”

Ms Pryer said that interest turned into desire after undertaking the Brisbane Catholic Education’s (BCE) Women Breakthrough to Principal Program in 2023 (now known as the Women in Leadership Program).

“It wasn’t until I participated (in the program) that I realised the potential I had to influence my students’ lives significantly.

“This pivotal opportunity ignited within me a desire to pursue principalship, driven by the desire to make a meaningful difference.”

The BCE program aims to empower, inspire, and elevate aspiring female leaders across BCE’s 146 schools and offices.

With a passion for sports, theatre, and public speaking Ms Pryer said celebrating her students’ diverse talents was important.

“I want my students to know they can express themselves in a way which feels right to them,” she said.
