A Far North Queensland First Nations business has been named the country’s best small employer at the Australian Training Awards.

Yarrabah-based Gunggandji-Mandingalbay Yidinji Peoples Prescribed Body Corporate Aboriginal Corporation took home the 2024 Small Employer of the Year awards at a ceremony in Canberra this week.

Queensland Finance, Trade, Employment and Training Minister Ros Bates said the organisation offered a unique training model blending traditional knowledge with western science.

Minister Bates said the charity and not-for-profit group partnered with TAFE Queensland and other service providers to delivers a range of nationally-recognised and non-accredited training.

She said this included a standout Indigenous ranger traineeship program, to better protect land and sea country.
