You could easily miss the Hamilton Guardian Childcare and Education Centre nestled in a quiet street in Brisbane’s inner-north.
The centre, at 405 MacArthur Avenue, is open from 6.30am to 6.30pm daily and is regarded as one of the shining lights among Guardian’s 180 premiums centres across Australia.
A recent survey of Guardian families put the centre in the top 2 percent nationally for family satisfaction (measured by Net Promoter Score).
This year it also received one of Guardian’s coveted 2026 Family Choice awards, earned by centres that achieve very high Google reviews and family satisfaction survey results.
Despite its inner-city location, the centre has lots of space, including six learning studios, grouped by age, a separate sleep room attached to the nursery and a massive shaded outdoor space.
Centre Manager Rebecca (Bec) Taylor, who holds a Bachelor-level teaching degree and a Masters Degree, says the quiet location means a lot of people do not realise the centre exists.
However, it is well positioned for families in the inner north and the tens of thousands of people who travel along nearby Kingsford Smith Drive every day to work in the Airport and Port precincts of Brisbane.
One of the big appeals for families who use the centre is the high educator-to-child ratios and the team stability – most of the educators have been there between four and nine years.
“The centre really feels like home for the children, and everybody knows everyone – not just the children in their rooms,” Bec says.
“We work really closely with our families and we aim to go above and beyond with communication so they know how their children are doing and we can connect their experience with priorities at home.
“We want families to be comfortable to come to us on anything that is on their mind.”
The centre has fully implemented the exclusive Guardian To BE Me age and stage learning program which aims to demystify play-based learning and records development milestones as they happen.
Bec describes the carers in her baby area as a “nursery dream team”.
The team are all trained under the Guardian Baby Ambassadors program, and create a calm, safe zone for babies to take their first learning steps and begin socialising with others.
The educators come from a broad mix of cultures, and this is reflected in the activities and the food.
Some of the special activities are Zumba, Spanish language and Japanese culture classes and “dance-alongs”.
The team has hosted movie nights, Mothers’ Day dinners and an Ekka day at the centre to help capture the spirit of the real event.
Chef Chrislyn is an experienced teacher and an “amazing” cook and supports the children in baking experiences as well as providing interesting, healthy food as part of Guardian’s Nutrition for Life program.
“We believe in the power of play-based learning with structure and freedom, where children are supported to take risks, develop 21st century skills, and grow into confident, capable learners,” Bec says.
“I love the freedom and excitement that every day brings for children. I love watching them become more independent and learning so much so quickly.
“I have a strong passion for being an advocate for small children and making sure they are really ready for school and life beyond that.”
