The number seven is often considered lucky and holds a special place in many aspects of our culture.

In Christianity there are seven days of creation, the rainbow has seven colours, and musical note patterns are divided into seven.

Given this, it may well be a good sign for Carmel College, Thornlands, that the school has seven sets of twins all to start in Year 7 – a very rare phenomenon.

Carmel College Principal Stephen Adair said “their unique bonds, shared experiences, and individual strengths will bring a wonderful energy to the 2026 Year 7 cohort.”

“From identical duos to fraternal siblings, the 14 students are already making history at the College,” Mr Adair said.

“It’s not every day that you see so many pairs of twins start in one cohort.

“Together, they will enrich our school community with twice the enthusiasm, twice the creativity, and twice the spirit of collaboration.”

Year 7 twin Mya said she was eager to start secondary school.

“I am excited to learn new subjects alongside my twin Ada,” she said.

“I also can’t wait to meet other twins.”

Carmel College mother Rebecca Iffland said, “we feel incredibly proud seeing Ada and Mya begin their secondary school journey at Carmel College.”

“Watching them grow into confident young people and take this big step together is truly special,” she said.

“It’s a moment filled with mixed emotions, but I’m excited that they will share this opportunity together.”
