Business turnover in Australia is showing signs of sustained growth, despite ongoing challenges in the mining sector.

The latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data showed business turnover rose 0.6 percent in January 2025 in trend terms.

ABS Head of Business Statistics Zaneta Georgievski said, in seasonally adjusted terms, the 13-industry aggregate showed a 1.4 percent rise in business turnover, with 10 of the 13 industries growing in January.

“This is the sixth consecutive rise in monthly business turnover in trend terms, making it the strongest period of sustained growth in the 13-industry aggregate since August 2022,” Ms Georgievski said.

She said the strongest rises were in the Professional, scientific and technical services industry, up 4.3 percent, and Construction, which grew 2.8 percent.

“The largest fall in turnover was in the Electricity, gas, water and waste services industry (-4.5 percent), after a large rise in December.”

The data showed Mining turnover fell -1.2 percent in January and was the only industry with an annual fall, registering a -11.6 percent decline.
