Australian manufacturing recorded a record 7 percent increase in business turnover in September.
The latest Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data showed overall monthly business turnover rose 2.2 percent in September (seasonally adjusted).
ABS Head of Business Statistics Tom Lay said manufacturing was the main driver of the growth in overall business turnover.
“Manufacturing division turnover rose 7 percent, its highest growth on record,” Mr Lay said.
“Primary metal product manufacturing was the main contributor to the rise in manufacturing turnover,” he said.
“It grew by 19.7 percent and was boosted by a rise in non-monetary gold exports.”
Mr Lay said international demand also drove rises in turnover for iron ore and lithium miners resulting in a 4 percent increase for the Mining division.
He said business turnover was 6.9 percent higher than in September 2024, with 12 industries reporting rises over the last year.
“The industries that saw the largest annual rises were Manufacturing (+14.2 percent), Professional, scientific and technical services (+9.9 percent), Information media and telecommunications (+8 percent) and Accommodation and food services (+7.9 percent).”
