What’s On for the Queensland winter school holidays

School holidays are just around the corner. Here’s our lineup of what to do with the young and young at heart over the break.

Brisbane

Discover enchanting wizards and fantastical beasts in The Harry Potter Experience, where visitors are invited follow a trail through a spellbinding woodland with spectacular light and sound effects. Harry, Draco, Hagrid and a Dementor will be there to bring the magic of the books to life. At Sirromet Winery, Mount Cotton from June 20-July 27. Click here for tickets.

The French Le Festival has something for the kids as well as mum and dad. The annual gathering of music, art and gastronomy brings French savoir-faire to Brisbane with live entertainment, French food and drink, masterclasses, and more. The Out of the Box Festival is back for the first time in seven years with a six-day extravaganza from June 17-22, 2025. The fun-loving Festival is aimed at children aged less than eight, and will feature theatre experiences, workshops, free events and activities at all of the venues at QPAC, with additional programs at the State Library, Queensland Museum and QAGOMA. Highlights include The Gruffalo musical, a Bluey Puppetry Workshop, and Where is the Green Sheep play. Click here for tickets.

Catch Disney On Ice in the Find Your Hero experience with Mickey and Minnie as they bring to life magical adventures with world-class ice skating, iconic music and stunning costumes. Step inside the music of Encanto with Mirabel; sail away with Moana and Maui; join Anna and Elsa on their quest; swim under the sea with Ariel; explore an enchanted castle with Belle; and belt out your dreams with Rapunzel. Ipswich

Make some fury and scaly friends at the Ipswich Pet & Reptile Expo is on Saturday June 21 at the Ipswich Showgrounds. For tickets click here.

Spark Ipswich returns for the fifth year, with a smorgasboard of art, culture, music, performances, and interactive experiences. Get some family fun with more than 50 events across the city. For tickets click here.

Logan

From outdoor sport, to performing arts, the Logan City Council’s Krank program is designed to keep kids and teens busy with more than 140 free or low-cost activities, including classes covering learning to fish, bootcamp, laser tag, and embroidery. Discover some local history at the Beenleigh Historical Village and Museum which features early Australian heritage laid out in a village atmosphere. There is also a café and art gallery. Click here for tickets.

Gold Coast

Create your own adventure at the Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk – a 1.5km rainforest walk which includes a bridge, a 40-metre cantilevered platform, and a viewing platform joined by a pathway that winds along the canopy floor. The walk is accessible from the Eco centre and takes around 45 minutes. Click here for details.

Noisy kids will enjoy making their own drum at the HOTA art workshop on June 14. They will get to design and decorate a drum that’s uniquely theirs and then bang, bang, bang, the drums will be ready to wake up the Gallery. For tickets click here.

Sunshine Coast

For all of the little dancers out there, Josephine Wants to Dance is a musical based on the picture book by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley. It follows the story of Josephine the kangaroo who loves to dance and is part of a national tour created by Monkey Baa, Australia’s premier theatre company for young audiences. Visit some of the Sunshine Coast’s waterfalls including Gardeners Falls, Kondalilla Falls, Buderim “Serenity” Falls, Booloumba Falls (4WD only), and Wappa Falls. It might be too cold to swim, but these are spectacular when in full force and make a great free family day out.
