Aspley will hold a community street tree planting on April 5 from 9am-noon. All new street trees have been chosen to suit the site and local area. Planting holes will be dug beforehand and tools supplied. As a thank you for participating, enjoy a free cold drink and sausage sizzle afterwards. You can also take home a free native plant. A free circus variety show is coming to Brisbane City Hall as part of the Lord Mayor’s Children’s Program. Curbside Carnies: The Magical Mystery Box of Dreams features hula hooping, juggling, acrobatics, aerials, dance, and other amazing feats of strength. Tour de Brisbane on April 11 caters for all ages and abilities, including the Big Family Ride covering 6.5km of closed city roads. Children aged eight or older can ride solo with parental supervision, while those under seven years can ride with mum or dad in a bike trailer or on a bike seat. Pack a picnic and make your way to the Redcliffe or Sandgate foreshore for the start of the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race on April 18 at 11am. It’s the 77th anniversary of the race that runs every Good Friday. Competitors start the race just off Sandgate, and will sail north past Redcliffe, giving landlubbers the chance to enjoy the spectacle onshore. You can also spot the sails going by the Shorncliffe foreshore where the Bluewater Festival will be in full swing from 9.30am-8pm at Moora Park with live bands, kids workshops, rides, food and markets which culminate in a beach party and fireworks in the evening.
