Upgrades have been announced for four suburban sporting facilities in Brisbane.

Brisbane City Council announced this week that improvements had been approved for:

  • North Star Football Club in Zillmere
  • Oxenham Park in Nundah
  • Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre in Wynnum
  • Runcorn Pool

North Star Football Club

North Star Football Club has operated for more than 60 years and now has more than 800 members across junior, adult and masters teams. Works will begin this month to replace the club’s roof and improve the change rooms.

Oxenham Park

The upgrade at Oxenham Park, which is home to the Toombul District Cricket Club, Mayne Tigers Junior AFL and the Toombul Croquet Club, will be undertaken over two years, starting next month. The upgrade will include two new change rooms, a new toilet block with accessible facilities, a covered walkway linking the new facilities to the croquet club and a new path to the accessible car park near the cricket club.

Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre

The Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre is run by volunteers and has hosted social activities, events and classes for older residents for more than 40 years. The works will involve replacing part of the roof in the main hall area and delivering structural reinforcement works to support the centre long term, with works beginning next month.

Runcorn Pool

Runcorn Pool, which will celebrate its 20th birthday next year, will have its accessible toilet and baby change facilities upgraded, new bathroom fittings installed and new walls installed from this month. To safely carry out these improvements, the pool’s indoor facilities will be temporarily closed for around two months, however, temporary bathrooms will be installed while works are underway.
